How I became a UI/UX Designer
I had always wanted to be a developer, a web developer or a mobile developer, I wasn’t really picky about which one to be. I started off as a web developer, made a team of young tech minds in high school and started a building on an idea. The team didn’t really last for long because we all part ways as we got into college and into different fields of learning. When i got into college, i learned about the different tech communities and as a young tech enthusiast i made sure i never missed a single meetup held in school. At a particular meetup, we were introduced to Android Development where we were told it is the development of mobile applications and written with a programming language called Java. This got me really thinking because i wanted to create applications people would use on their mobile phones, and that was how i switched my interest from web development to android development.
As my interest grew in android development, i started looking for online platforms where i could go learn android development and that was how i stumbled on Favcode54; an online platform created by a young developer from my country. So i signed up for the android development course on Favcode54 and got added to a channel on slack where we were meant to take on the classes and to my greatest surprise, i was added to the UI/UX design class.
While still confused on why i am in the design class, i continued on with the course without complaint. There we were introduced into design generally and by our mentor Perrie Fidelis, and we were told to get use a design software either Figma Design or Adobe XD. I chose Figma Design and started designing with it. To cut the long story short, I kept designing and today I am a Figma Design Advocate in Africa. And that was how a confused to be developer turned into a design advocate
